Frosted Vases

For those of you who are on Pinterest, you have probably seen this project. It involves glass vases, rubber bands, and white spray paint. We thought we had to try this because it seems so simple! Put the rubber bands around the vases in any pattern you want, spray paint the vases softly. Let them dry a really long time (like a few days) and then carefully carefully take the rubber bands off. Just a warning, you can smudge the paint if you aren't too careful.

It would probably be a good idea to coat it all with a clear coat of something, but I'm not sure what yet. Although maybe your white spray paint won't come off as easily as ours did. But anyways, here they are!

Happy Crafting!

Gift from La Paz, Bolivia!

One of my best friends is a 1st year teacher in La Paz, Bolivia, and when she came home this week to celebrate Christmas, we were able to go out to lunch, catch up, and she gave me this present!

The flowers are made of wool by women living in La Paz and this is their income. As she described to me, it is such a different life down there than it is here in America, and it has reminded me to be thankful for what I have. As you can see, I placed the flowers in a mug that is sitting on our long shelf featuring our mugs and small antique collectables in the family room. Thanks Joy!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! Here are pictures of our centerpiece that we put together with some items we had laying around the house: ribbons and handkerchiefs topping small vases. Also, ribbons crossed the table as if it was a gift! Simple decorations and we get to keep them and reuse them for something else!     -Brittany-

Dry Erase Menu

Another Pinterest item I made was a dry erase menu board for Caroline's apartment at school. Here is how it turned out:

And here it is hanging in the kitchen!

So Pinterest is one of my favorite new obsessions. I have a wreath DIY section and decided to make one of the yarn wreaths. Here it is!

'Tis the Season for... Shoes?

My mom went to a Christmas party for ladies only. She came back with this cute little Christmas tree.

If you notice close up, it is decorated for women only!

Bows with high heels. ornaments of socks and flip flops (because, hello, we are in Florida). How cute!!

Paintings

My roommates and I have been making many different crafts to hang around our apartment this year. These are some of my contributions:

The two canvas paintings were made by cutting a design (palm tree and turtle) out of a canvas, painting the canvas, and gluing some black foam board into the back of the canvas.

The pineapple painting was a mixed media project involving newspaper, paint sample paper, spray paint, acrylic, glitter, and cardboard. The picture project is simply one picture that I took of our boat while we were deep sea fishing that has been adjusted four different ways.

The track and field painting was done on a large piece of plywood. It is simply spray painted and has the signatures of everyone on my college track team.

Stationary Gifts

For Christmas this year I decided to make stationary for my friends. I purchased some card stock, scrap-booking paper, envelopes, and rubber cement, from Walmart for about $20 total. Then I simply cut different shapes and designs from the paper and glued them to the card stock. This was a relatively cheap craft to produce, however, it did take a sufficient amount of time. ~Caroline~

The Arts

The above pictures are of some of the drawings, paintings, projects, and crafts that I have completed. These two are from my senior art class. This spider-man picture on the right was part of my senior art portfolio. We had to choose a theme and do several projects related to that theme. I choose a superhero theme and this was my stippling picture. That basically means that this entire drawing is made of little tiny dots, in various sizes and concentrations. The lizard was also a senior project. It is a large piece of wood, painted, and stamped with a print that I created.
